Coach David Robinson (“Coach Rob”) comes to the Sunset Argonauts with over 30 of experience. Coach Rob has been at just about all levels of play (from high school to the NFL and everything in between). As a player, Coach Rob played football at Sonora High School in La Habra where he was a tight-end and a linebacker. After high school, he played college football as a tight-end at Fullerton Community College and CSULB. After college, Coach Rob began his coaching career at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach. One of our young coaches making his transition from player to coach is Coach Sesay.Coach Sesay played football locally at Gahr High School, then at Golden West Junior College and finished his career at Colorado State University-Pueblo.Coach Sesay is currently on the coaching staff at Golden West College and will be handing the defensive backs for us. Just a few years removed from playing himself, Coach Sesay connects with the kids quickly and offers a current perspective of what it’s like to play at the next level.

Coach Harrington was asked to join The Sunset Argonauts Football Club to train our defensive linemen. We are lucky to have such an experienced coach, and a coach that has more tools in his truck then most schools have their equipment room… just come and watch him unload it all at practice. He has been coaching at the JUCO level for the last 6+ years and training high school athletes is something he did “back in the day” for over 16 years at Western High School in Anaheim. Coach Asher Frow

Defensive Line
Coach Asher Frow an active college football player at University of North Texas.A classic story of a player from a small high school (Troy HS), first signing an NAIA scholarship, then shortly afterwards moving back home to play at Fullerton College. As a player, Asher played under Coach Robinson and Coach Byrnes at Fullerton College before making the transition to the DI a year later. Asher has a huge passion for helping high school players in our area reach their goals by giving them the coaching and mentoring he wished he could have had at that age.
Tim Byrnes

QBs & RBs and co-OC
Tim Byrnes enjoyed a 26-year career at Fullerton College before joining Chapman University last year and is currently the Panthers special teams coach. Coach Byrnes’ career defines grit. He started as position coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator and finally head coach. With coach Byrnes at the helm as head coach the Hornets won multiple conference, state and national titles and was one of the most respected JUCO program in the country. Currently Coach Byrnes is helping at Chapman where he is the special teams coach. Coach James Griffin comes to us from Fullerton College where he is Wide Receivers/Recruiting-Passing Game Coordinator. In addition to his knowledge, and experience, "Coach Griff" brings BIG TIME enthusiasm that rubs off on all the players. A former linebacker from East High School in Memphis, he was All-State and a Tennessee State Player of the Year - setting numerous state records (sacks in a season -29-, sacks in a career -60-, and blocked kicks -19-. Coach Donne Lobendahn played locally in high school (Gahr High School in Cerritos). Coach Lobendahn hails from a true “football family” – his father Vince is also a former player and coach, and was at Golden West College when Donne played there before transferring to Pierce College to finish up his playing career.The only thing bigger than Lobendahn ‘s 6’8 and over 300 LBS frame is his heart and love for the kids and the game. He is currently the OL coach at Fullerton College – and with the JUCO system taking the season off, we were lucky to have scooped him for a couple of months.
Austin Lyles

One of our "young guys" is Coach Austin Liles. Austin is another local high school player (Orange Lutheran HS) where he received All-Trinity League Honors. He then went on to play WR at San Jose State. He's expected to graduate in May 2021 with a BA in Business. Austin is helping with the WRs and QBs and excited to be on the ride in his first coaching experience. Welcome, Austin... we're lucky to have you on board.
Alonzo Lamarque

Coach Alonzo Lamarque has a history of "starting things" - like his shoe company and his furniture restoration business. He also started "The Argonauts" many many years ago in Pop Warner Football Youth League and flag football leagues, and many of the players on the team today were on one of his earlier year teams as an 8, 9, 10 or 11 year-old. "Coach Zo" is super-passionate about youth sports and got this whole thing started with a call to Winners Circle... and we're here. Thank you, Coach Zo!

Eddie Steele, Xavion Steele, Xavier Steele "It takes a village" to go from zero to hero and get ready for our first game in under two weeks.  Enter Steele Fitness. Coach Eddie Steele and his twin sons Xavion (Fullerton JC to Utah State) and Xavier (UMASS) are masters in motivation, strength, conditioning and mental toughness.  The Steele Fitness "dungeon" is frequented by many of our players in the offseason.  We are lucky to have entered into a 60-day agreement with this firm to get us in playing shape.
